I wanted to create a simple but clean portrait that didn’t inter fear with the subject or influence the viewers viewpoint. By scouting the location earlier, I made the decision to photograph the pastor in the morning due to the quality of the light coming into the sanctuary’s eastern windows. I was using an 8 X 10 view camera so I asked the Pastor to stand and get comfortable. I love it when things come together as they did in this portrait. He’s a good looking man the sanctuary is light and bright and the large format film quality is supreme. I exposed several sheets of film both in color and in black and white. The color shot was used in the final show but I want to show you the black and white version because I really like black and white and I particularly love the tonality of this image.
